League of Allied Arts 2004

The Towne Street Theatre was honored and recognized for their quality theatrical productions and community outreach over the past 11 years, on Sunday October 1, 2004 by The League of Allied Arts at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. This was the League's 65th Anniversary and celebration of Langston Hughes, whose Los Angeles performance 65 years ago launched this organization that supports the arts in Los Angeles and gives scholarships to worthy students in the arts. Amazing Grace Conservatory, California Dance Academy Dr. Samella Lewis, Dr. Albert McNeil, Dorothy Taylor and John Otterbridge were the other honorees at this stellar event at which Congresswoman Diane Watson, Margie Reese, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and many other Towne Street Theatre and prominent individuals were in attendance.

Towne Street performed a selection from one of their most popular shows - Who Is that Lady? from Stan Seller's play Start of Conversation with company members Veronica Thompson, Diane Sellers and Elena Muslar - one of Towne Street Theatre's Musical Theatre Camp kids since 1999 and the recipient of the first Towne Street Theatre Virginia Capers Youth Award for Excellence in theatre. Accepting on behalf of Towne Street Theatre were co-founders, Nancy Cheryll Davis, Nathaniel Bellamy and Nancy Renee.

We thank the League for the recognition of our efforts and also all those who have supported the building of Towne Street Theatre over the years.

"Congratulations Nancy on the honor bestowed upon Towne Street Theatre by the League of Allied Arts.

It is an honor well deserved I'm sure. "

"It's Alexis from the director's lab.

Reading about all the accolades for Towne Street has been really exciting.

It's so good to see theatre being honored and acknowledged

as having a genuinely positive impact on a community.

Congratulations to you and your co-founders and your whole Towne Street crew!"

Warm regards, Alexis
